Bob Loewenstein managed to get some work done on the guiding software for the echelle. Don took cal exposures. We managed to open at 23:36 MDT with a cirrusy sky. Don managed to get some stellar spectra before we were forced to close again due to threatening rain and lightning at 00:42 MDT. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan The storm which came up from the south stalled out just short of APO and retreated after an hour or so without bringing us any more rain. After the skies cleared, high humidity kept us closed until 03:32, when we were able to open and get some data with GRIM. When GRIM was focused, the seeing was quite good and there was some evidence of astigmatism as judged by images on either side of focus. Later during the GRIM observing, the seeing deteriorated. During the observing for the lens monitoring program (PU05), I discovered that there was considerable condensation on SPIcam's dewar window. The short time scheduled for the program meant I had no chance of clearing the condensation before twilight, so I continued taking data in hopes that the effect could be removed by flatfielding. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** - NONE - --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:50 Echelle 072(0290) 027 54 14.1/14.8 135 12 clear 0.86" 03:40 GRIM(f/10) 100(1296) 164 64 13.3/13.7 151 16 K 0.60" 04:55 SPIcam -50(1041) 238 44 13.4/13.6 165 11 r' 1.31" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 60 50 6 92 (E) 603 cloudy none 17:01 61 47 6 89 (E) 419 cloudy none 18:01 62 46 1 163 (SSE) 425 cloudy none 19:01 58 49 7 84 (E) 526 cloudy none 20:01 57 47 11 106 (ESE) 595 cloudy none 21:01 57 47 11 120 (ESE) 788 cloudy none 22:01 58 47 15 125 (SE) 769 cloudy none 23:01 59 47 12 132 (SE) 1023 ptly cldy none 00:01 58 48 15 159 (SSE) 1155 ptly cldy none 01:01 57 49 6 90 (E) 1486 cloudy none 02:01 52 51 16 136 (SE) 1449 ptly cldy none 03:01 53 50 10 166 (SSE) 1481 ptly cldy none 04:01 56 48 16 148 (SSE) 2500 ptly cldy none 05:01 57 46 11 175 (S) 2438 ptly cldy none 06:01 57 47 7 174 (S) 1926 ptly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
