Opened at 22:05. Had problems with slews being sent from either mcnode or Remark. Did a telstop/telrun, then restarted_mc. Good after that. While working with the SH software, the mouse seemed real sluggish. The program later crashed when trying to do analysis. Restarted both Obs2 and SHmachine, worked fine after that. 2nd half Observing Specialist: McMillan Weather during second half remained partly cloudy. I was unable to reach Jeff Morgan for a full description of what he desired from the Shack-Hartmann data, so I simply did a full altitude sweep at roughly 7-degree intervals. Then, because I still thought the collimation looked very poor, I made adjustments to the secondary tip/tilts to improve the appearance of the focus donuts by eye, then took some more S-H data at three different altitudes. Unfortunately, these measurements were somewhat troubled by a sudden worsening of the seeing. I returned to the nominal secondary tilts and got a few more stars for comparison in the same seeing before moving on. There was enough time to check one instrument block. I considered GRIM, which has the smallest field of view and is therefore most sensitive to changes in the boresight, but I decided on DIS because it was already mounted and because the boresight position is critical for tracking in different rotations. I started with a focus check of DIS, comparing the focus on the instrument to the focus on the slitviewer. I found a difference of 100-150 steps (see focus log), showing that the slitviewer focus needs work. However, small changes in the slitviewer focus are much easier to do with two people, so I left it and moved on to the next step. Observing specialists should note that the correct focus is about 150 steps higher than the best focus on the slitviewer, until it can be adjusted again. I updated all five instrument blocks for the change in focus zeropoint, so after tonight 0 should be a good starting estimate for any instrument. I checked the DIS instrument block, which appeared to be good. Some of the measurements for the new block came out rather strange, so after consideration I recorded the values but restored the old instrument block. The center of rotation is on the slit and should allow for good pointing and tracking.
