Opened dome at 21:50. When attempting to start a small poining model, had problems keeping Vega on the NA2 guider chip long enough to initiate a reasonable initial pointing correction for even centering the star. Too close to zenith were tracking error was a huge problem. Observing Specialist, 2nd Half: Camron Hastings I took over at 00:00 and we started with re-centering Vega. The centering went well after a little head banging. With a new star centered, we ran a short pointing model and had excellent results, 2.5" RMS. Russet came in during these wee hours to help. We then switched from the NA2 port to the Shack-Hartmann and adjusted the tertiary mirror tilts. Jon Davis and Jeff Morgon then worked on collimation of the telescope using the Shack-Hartmann camera. This went extremely well, taking only about 15 minutes. We then finished the night off with a very large pointing model, great results, 3.5" RMS. from 20 degrees to 85 degrees with up to 65 degree slews in altitude. The PMSS data looks very good and improved greatly when compared to the PMSS data from before the shutdown. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- Only made rough focus values.... #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 80 34 13 270 (W) 531 ptly cldy none 17:01 79 34 7 261 (W) 508 ptly cldy none 18:01 78 33 9 229 (SW) 622 ptly cldy none 19:01 74 32 4 230 (SW) 790 ptly cldy none 20:01 69 30 7 191 (S) 872 clear none 21:01 67 40 2 10 (N) 995 clear none 22:01 66 39 14 15 (NNE) 852 ptly cldy none 23:01 66 38 2 16 (NNE) 1590 ptly cldy none 00:01 66 37 4 5 (N) 983 ptly cldy none 01:01 67 36 3 300 (WNW) 785 ptly cldy none 02:01 64 37 2 0 (N) 2392 ptly cldy none 03:01 63 37 15 71 (ENE) 842 cloudy none 04:01 61 38 22 70 (ENE) 1086 cloudy none 05:01 60 39 18 68 (ENE) 1603 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
