They cleared off just in time for a single science exposure before we switched over to the echelle. Some of the DIMM measurements showed bad seeing, but none of those were concurrent with guider measurements. When we could check it, the telescope was usually getting 1-1.5 arcseconds. The night was plagued by many small problems. The only serious one was * a failure of the filter wheel for the NA2 guider, which made it necessary to dismount DIS and tape the filter wheel in a good position so that it wouldn't move during instrument rotations. In addition, there were a couple of hangups of the cloud camera script (one fixed by Craig, one self-correcting), two crashes of the remote Mac running the echelle, and a spate of observing specialist forgetfulness about eyelids, tertiary position, and cryogen connections, fortunately non-fatal. Pointing and tracking with the echelle were notably poor; upcoming engineering time should probably include a check of the tertiary tip/tilts for the NA1 position. The IR video camera is still Really Cool, especially when there's a bat in the dome. OBSERVER COMMENTS D. York (UC05): Cleared just in time, slow start owing to user being off line for 2.5 months. Excellent progress on program, on cal star and three expos on program (reddened) star. Encountered some loss of time at beginning owing to unhappy Mac in Chicago.
