The TR2 mirror cover was lagging upon opening. Interferrence (scale) pattern was noticeable on the IRSC. Had a 6-degree clockwise self-recovering NA2 rotator overshoot on first observing slew. That is from UW05's Remark. None of the earlier test slews from the TCC or Obs 1 Remark had done this. After editing filter.txt files, the Dryrot window died, probably some sort of UW SPIcam interraction. Bad image motion (or astimagtism) evident in /export/images/dalcanton/may26.0026.fits. Nothing on the Dataq indicating primary motion. Rotated to the Shack-Hartmann port. Extremely bad (secondary flopping?) image motion evident on the video monitor. Wind 28mph out of WSW, scope pointing right into it. Tried video taping. Someone rearranged the cabling. Slewed 90 degrees out of wind and things settled down substantially. Tracking (Axes 1 & 2) failed when setting instrument to Shack-Hartmann, but no failure occurred when setting back to SPIcam. The TCC complained the (TR1) rotator was still changing, so it halted the other two axes. Had a couple of micro-overshoots in the clockwise direction, during the remainder of the first half. Had one instance where guiding did not fail but centroiding did because star was too close to edge. Effectively had no guiding until it was offset back toward center of chip. The guider still ran, so no audible warning was given. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Camron Hastings Switch over went smoothly. Started with DIS on time and all systems ran smoothly until 04:00 MDT or so. Guide camera shutter died again! Shutter only opening part way and getting a nice leaf pattern. It gradually got worse so that the portion opening grew smaller and smaller until I had to stop guiding. See the images in the /guider directory. (Posted on board as well) This ended ruining a 30 minute exposure as the telescope jumped when the guider lost the star intermittently and then made some unreasonable offsets for some reason. Perhaps it jumped to a hot pixel or something. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:00 SPIcam 100(881) 244 49 14.0/14.9 265 18 I ?.? 21:50 NA2gdr -1014 none 1.2 01:20 DISSlit 100(782) 2 59 11.2/11.6 280 15 none 1.2" #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 68 22 10 258 (WSW) 1144 clear none 19:01 63 17 19 262 (W) 923 clear none 20:01 59 12 12 257 (WSW) 1086 clear none 21:01 57 12 17 271 (W) 1100 clear none 22:01 56 11 16 272 (W) 961 clear none 23:01 56 11 19 268 (W) 1603 clear none 00:01 53 9 13 268 (W) 1757 clear none 01:01 53 9 17 266 (W) 1952 clear none 02:01 53 6 14 282 (WNW) 1987 clear none 03:01 51 6 15 291 (WNW) 1918 clear none 04:01 50 5 13 300 (WNW) 1879 clear none 05:01 50 8 7 292 (WNW) 1840 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
