At times when we were using the guider with the telescope at a reasonable altitude, the guider seeing was considerably better than the DIMM measurements. Much of the night's observing was done at high airmass, however. The telescope and instruments behaved perfectly, including the guider. No shutter problems, and no apparent systematic pointing effect. Even the GRIM application never failed. The only minor problem was the occasional rotator overshoot of a few degrees on clockwise moves, always self-correcting. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:40 DISslit 0(1027) 122 77 19.0/21.8 238 7 -- 1.09" 01:10 GRIM(f/10) 80(1110) -55 53 18.0/18.3 271 10 J 0.69" 03:05 GRIM(f/10) 125(1269) 142 27 17.4/17.7 315 10 J 0.94" 04:00 GRIM(f/10) 50(1126) 154 32 17.0/17.1 318 13 J 1.39" #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:01 77 28 12 266 (W) 644 clear none 18:01 73 27 1 2 (N) 658 clear none 19:01 74 27 7 283 (WNW) 762 clear none 20:01 67 21 5 268 (W) 753 clear none 21:01 68 22 5 247 (WSW) 720 clear none 22:01 68 22 11 216 (SW) 705 clear none 23:01 66 21 11 233 (SW) 1013 clear none 00:01 66 20 13 241 (WSW) 883 clear none 01:01 65 19 5 270 (W) 1016 clear none 02:01 65 20 4 275 (W) 1082 clear none 03:01 65 20 5 316 (NW) 1025 clear none 04:01 63 18 12 332 (NNW) 925 clear none 05:01 63 17 13 9 (N) 914 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
