No problems. DIMM started smoothly, IRSC started smoothly, SPIcam started smoothly. I cleaned the azimuth drive again just to make sure there were no metal chips on it. We switched to GRIM at 22:19 with no incident. During the night I saw only minor rotator overruns of about 4 degrees max. TCC operated normally. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Light cirrus began to move in around the beginning of second half. This produced the expected good seeing in focus images (much better than the DIMM measurements), but most of the science targets were at high airmass, so it was hard to judge the seeing from the guider measurements. No observer showed up or contacted us for UW04, so we offered some of the time to the previous UW program. I knew some of what was intended for UW04 because of previous work with the program, so when the UW02 targets had all set, I did a little service observing of the moon using SPIcam, which was already mounted. I finished up with service observing for PU05, but in spite of the time savings because no instrument change was needed, I was only able to get a few images before the sky grew too bright. This program needs more scheduled time now that we're using 12-degree instead of 18-degree twilight. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:28 SPIcam +100(0788) 229 49 10.6/11.4 282 03 R 1.02" 20:46 NA2Gdr 1488(0788) 334 44 10.7/11.1 278 04 none 1.05" 20:31 GRIM II +085(0828) 146 52 10.1/10.2 216 08 f/5,H 0.69" 01:40 SPIcam 125(554) 180 67 9.9/9.5 265 7 R 0.71" 04:40 SPIcam 75(581) 114 38 7.6/8.5 265 5 r' 1.2 #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 58 22 6 265 (W) 1291 clear none 19:01 56 21 5 268 (W) 1435 clear none 20:01 51 22 5 266 (W) 1585 clear none 21:01 51 22 4 249 (WSW) 1773 clear none 22:01 51 22 9 228 (SW) 1538 clear none 23:01 51 21 4 228 (SW) 1598 clear none 00:01 50 21 5 261 (W) 1905 clear none 01:01 50 21 6 253 (WSW) 1869 cirrus none 02:01 50 21 5 265 (W) 1993 cirrus none 03:01 49 22 6 236 (SW) 1879 cirrus none 04:01 49 21 5 234 (SW) 2040 cirrus none 05:01 46 22 0 249 (WSW) 1944 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
