Began taking Shack-Hartmann reference frames early, while still quit bright in the enclosure. The device has a substantial amount of light leaks. Performed primary mirror astigmatism testing with the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor. No ventilation of the telescope itself was done until the test. Monitored aberrations with front and back vent tubes partially retracted as cooling took place. The focus changed (from SH analysis) quit rapidly from +500 microns and tapered off to around 0 microns. Fully reinserted vent tubes into the primary mirror and obtained additional SH frames after closing the mirror cell back up then allowing it to re-cool for about one-half hour. While working under the mirror cell, metal shavings were noticed, primarily along the front edge. Cleaned beneath the telescope and on the intermediate level below the front skirt. As an added precaution the entire azimuth drive surface was recleaned. The cooling fans may have been responsible for a lot of the particles making it down one level. The telescope had not been moved very far in azimuth between the daytime and the nighttime discovery. Initiated a Shack-Hartmann altitude sweep. Got elevations of 80, 70 and 60 degrees. The telescope consistently placed the various SAO stars about -12,+6 arcsec (X,Y coordinates) from the cross hairs. A little time was spent removing the 55 degree altitude limit from the software. Upon resuming, an abrupt wind shift to the East brought totally overcast skies. Closed at 00:30. Had problems with the Shack-Hartmann software-wise in that the mouse would only work about 20% of the time. No problems noticed with the newly released TCC version 2.2.9. Reopened at 04:00. Took more Shack-Hartmann data at an elevation of 50 degrees. The seeing on the SH video monitor appeared very bad. Closed at 05:00.
