Opened late at 21:00 due to dust. Did some astigmatism testing of the primary with Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor. Closed at 22:10 because of high dust counts. Recalibrated the DIMM guiding. The default settings were 1.2 pixels/millisecond for both directions. After running the new calibration routine the values were around 0.5pix/ms. The centering of Polaris then seemed much more accurate. No problems noticed with the newest version of the TCC sofware 2.2.9b1. However, we did not use it very extensively. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Camron Hastings I came in first half to help work with the Shack-Hartmann device and write up the S-H section in the new 3.5-m Observer's Manual. Observing went well except for the weather. Stayed closed second half due to weather. I stayed around to fill GRIM at around 4am. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:50 S-H 500(2080) 87 72 17.6/19.5 357 9 none ?.?" #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 74 30 17 226 (SW) 1749 cloudy none 19:01 68 24 10 236 (SW) 1610 cloudy none 20:01 65 24 16 176 (S) 2585 cloudy none 21:01 63 24 16 197 (SSW) 2939 cirrus none 22:01 63 25 19 163 (SSE) 3322 cloudy none 23:01 60 31 13 169 (SSE) 3072 cirrus none 00:01 61 31 23 196 (SSW) 7321 cirrus none 01:01 60 30 25 198 (SSW) 4218 cloudy none 02:01 61 30 18 193 (SSW) 4922 cloudy none 03:01 58 29 17 238 (WSW) 4546 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
