The azimuth drive surface had a substantial amount of loose dirt on it. The NA2 guider software was closed. This camera is not currently on line. Delayed opening for the obtaining of DIS calibration frames. Residual charge persisted on the red chip's lower-left (IRAF) corner, e.g., /export/images/may13.0004r.fit. Wiped (both) chips for several minutes. Feature disappeared. The blue chip had been fine. At start-up, the DIMM was frequently not quite getting 100 acceptable images needed for a successful seeing measurement. Somewhat colder tonight, starting at about 45F as opposed to 55F for last night and 60F for the previous night. Bad seeing of 2-3 arcseconds also. While manually re-focussing, the centering routine in the DIMM software was noticed to take several iterations. Perhaps the software may need to be calibrated to the LX200's drives. Stayed closed due to high dust counts. No observing was done first half. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Camron Hastings Dust counts stayed above or around closing level for most the night. The observer for the second half never showed up! I looked into the contact info in the proposal text and there were only email addresses listed. I emailed the only contact listed as 'contact'. Since the dust levels from the fire remained at closing or very close to it all night, I figured it was not a loss anyway. Perhaps they heard of the fire and figured we were closed. The smoke levels seemed to have dropped as the wind shifted slightly. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** - None - --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- - No Data - #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 53 22 16 146 (SE) 1914 clear none 19:01 50 23 14 131 (SE) 3539 clear none 20:01 47 22 10 109 (ESE) 16582 clear none 21:01 45 22 12 83 (E) 17079 clear none 22:01 44 22 13 90 (E) 29576 clear none 23:01 44 22 10 88 (E) 19237 clear none 00:01 48 24 7 149 (SSE) 7419 clear none 01:01 48 25 7 174 (S) 3549 clear none 02:01 47 26 9 177 (S) 3368 clear none 03:01 47 27 9 163 (SSE) 2988 clear none 04:01 46 26 15 148 (SSE) 2520 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
