Throughout most of first half, the Holloman NEXRAD radar showed precipitation very nearby, but this appeared to be a false report. The skies gradually cleared during first half. Seeing was generally good, around 1 arcsecond with a brief excursion up to 2 arcseconds around 23:00 when the clouds cleared off. The guider FWHM measurements were in good agreement with DIMM until shortly after 23:00, when the guider improved to 1 arcsecond but DIMM showed worse measurements. Observing with DIS in Object rotation, we saw extremely reliable pointing and guiding. Image jumps were apparent whenever focus updates were made (only by request, since autocollimation is off), but the guider compensated adequately for each jump after a few seconds. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Camron Hastings I took over at 01:00 and things ran smoothly all night. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** J. Holtzman (NM04): Things went pretty smoothly except for a few clouds. Guiding was spectacular -- no guide adjustments in two sets of hour-and-a-half exposures. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM " --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:10 DISslit 50(527) 38 76 6.9/9.0 305 05 none 0.9" #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:01 54 25 8 278 (W) 1227 ptly cldy none 18:01 47 24 9 324 (NW) 1212 ptly cldy none 19:01 46 25 6 349 (NNW) 1123 ptly cldy none 20:01 44 26 2 305 (NW) 1072 ptly cldy none 21:01 45 27 5 269 (W) 1133 cirrus none 22:01 44 27 7 304 (NW) 1129 cirrus none 23:01 41 27 5 28 (NNE) 854 mstly clr none 00:01 44 27 6 346 (NNW) 1090 mstly clr none 01:01 43 28 6 344 (NNW) 1034 mstly clr none 02:01 43 27 4 273 (W) 1153 clear none 03:01 42 26 5 267 (W) 1103 clear none 04:01 43 25 4 276 (W) 1222 clear none 05:01 43 26 6 332 (NNW) 1164 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
