The precipitation never reached us, and the humidity didn't *quite* make it to the limit before dropping again. Seeing was terrible throughout first half, ranging from 2-4 arcseconds, with the telescope temperature changing very rapidly so that it was hard to keep up with the focus. There was some difficulty with the guider monitor on startup which actually turned out to be a problem with the TCC logs (which are read by the guider monitor). Craig fixed it in timely fashion, and everything else was normal. 2nd Half Observing Specialist We started the second half with GRIM II and no problems. We switched to SPIcam at 02:35 MDT. I have returned GRIM to its original position, leaving the cables attached to the support cord. With this configuration we can still place the DIS dewer near the wall when operating with DIS and we will no longer need to clip and unclip the cabling. ****** OBSERVER COMMENTS ****** E.Turner (PU03): A productive night, all systems worked well. Usual excellent support from Russet. Very stable and accurate pointing allowed fast set-ups. K.Krisciunas (UW01): A very successful half night with GRIM and SPIcam. Observed one supernova field in H for 240 integrations. Got standard field twice in H. In BVRI observed two SN fields, plus four Landolt stds fields over a range of airmass of 1.1 to 2.4 (so will have extinctions in four filters). Also got some frames on three SDSS RR Lyr candidates. Seeing good high up, but understandably not so good at 3 airmasses. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ----------------- Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM " --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:20 DISslit 200(696) 35 77 5.8/9.5 074 08 none 2.3" 20:30 Guider 3000 none ~3.4" 01:01 GRIM II 250(685) 180 57 6.2/4.8 056 12 f/5-H 1.1" 02:45 SPIcam 100(455) 172 67 5.1/4.8 013 09 V 0.9" 02:50 Guider 0250 246 20 4.7/4.8 024 07 none 2.0" #First temp is air, second temp is telescope structure. ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip. or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions -------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:01 48 18 10 352 (N) 2212 ptly cldy none 18:01 49 20 6 344 (NNW) 2067 ptly cldy none 19:01 51 20 10 261 (W) 2171 ptly cldy none 20:01 47 19 6 221 (SW) 2138 ptly cldy none 21:01 40 31 15 67 (ENE) 1426 ptly cldy none 22:01 36 32 14 78 (ENE) 970 mstly clr none 23:01 38 29 4 89 (E) 1442 clear none 00:01 44 25 0 173 (S) 2147 clear none 01:01 43 25 10 53 (NE) 2061 clear none 01:01 43 25 10 53 (NE) 2061 clear none 02:01 41 25 6 18 (NNE) 1956 clear none 03:01 39 25 6 8 (N) 1681 clear none 04:01 42 26 1 192 (SSW) 2045 clear none 05:01 42 26 0 100 (E) 1774 clear none 06:01 36 25 14 69 (ENE) 1994 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
