We opened at 00:00 MDT and the clouds soon dispersed. Dust levels were very high though, near closing. It may be a good idea to CO2 the mirror sometime soon. When I opened the DIMM dome I found the DIMM laptop running and the software running normally. I checked the time readouts and the software reported telescope, laptop and UT. When I went in to the control room to start the search routine remotely I saw that the search failed because the laptop lost contact with the telescope. This happened to me once before and I fixed it by restarting the DIMM software. When I went out to restart I saw that the software no longer had a time readout from the telescope either. Is this a bug with the new DIMM software? It seems that contact was lost only when I tried to initiate a SMALLSEARCH. At 04:52 the rotator seemed to stop responding. It suddenly fell a degree or so behind and all slew commands would fail, as would commands. I re-initialized the axes with no effect. I made a physical check and found no trouble and finally had to restart the TCC and MC and all was fine. ??? We lost minimal time due to this trouble. ------------- OBSERVER COMMENTS ------------- UW01(S.Anderson): The telescope and instrument (DIS low res) performed well (except for the rotator glitch) and the weather was good. Thanks to Camron for providing his usual excellent observing skills.
