First instrument was switched from GrIm to SPIcam. No problems encountered and cirrus began to clear some at twilight. We ran into some very bad scattered light problems around 19:30. I copied the images into the /export/images/scatter directory and noted telescope position and moon position. Email sent to techstaff. On a better note, we did get a few images near 0.58" in a 40 sec exposure using Sloan z' band filter, and some 0.63" in r'! Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Second half started with light cirrus and excellent seeing, but soon progressed to thicker high clouds and no seeing at all. Although the telescope remained open and we kept trying exposures, less than half an hour of usable data were obtained after 01:30. We lost a few minutes when the GRIM application quit, necessitating a reboot (first time for the new software, I believe). We also had one image jump, just as a target was transiting. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:45 SPIcam +050(741) 016 56 +0.6/+1.3 307 14 R 0.76" 17:50 NA2 Gdr -0334(737) 016 56 +0.6/+1.3 312 12 none 0.84" 21:42 SPIcam +000(686) 335 52 +0.6/+0.6 264 10 R 1.12" 21:58 NA2 Gdr +282(710) 248 51 +1.3/+0.9 266 13 none 1.01" 00:14 GrIm2(f/10) 0(681) 161 72 0.8/0.8 267 11 K 0.58 00:16 NA2gdr * -1083 162 73 1.0/0.8 266 12 none 0.88 * The zeropoint for the guider with GRIM was changed after these measurements ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 8 5 310 (NW) 177 Cirrus None 17:01 34 13 10 324 (NW) 194 Cirrus None 18:01 34 14 10 293 (WNW) 242 Cirrus None 19:01 35 12 15 306 (NW) 289 Cirrus None 20:01 35 14 8 292 (WNW) 454 Cirrus None 21:01 33 17 9 274 (W) 529 Cirrus None 22:01 35 11 6 239 (WSW) 290 Cirrus None 23:01 35 8 12 269 (W) 183 Cirrus None 00:01 34 12 12 264 (W) 219 Cirrus None 01:01 34 13 11 271 (W) 237 Cirrus None 02:01 34 15 9 266 (W) 280 ptly cldy none 03:01 35 15 12 273 (W) 297 ptly cldy none 04:01 34 17 10 295 (WNW) 322 ptly cldy none 05:01 34 17 19 315 (NW) 328 mstly cldy none 06:01 34 18 15 289 (WNW) 366 mstly cldy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
