Dembicky I (Dembicky) came in to do evening checkout/startup for Russet, since her flight was delayed by 2 hrs getting back into El Passo. I opened the louvers/cooling fans on at 15:30. Enclosure was opened at 16:45. For the Lens program (PU04) , I had some problems with focusing the telescope due to a slight error in my notes that were written for me. I had the time set to long and keep overexposing the focus frames. I adjusted the time to 3 sec, took a test image to make sure things were working (they were and I could see a star) and things seemed to work better for the focus script after that. The dofocus routine numbers in my notes, also needed some adjustment which caused further delays. I think I now have a useable set of "my own" notes so that the next time PU04 is scheduled things should go a lot smoother (hopefully). I was also able to collect some data for the lens program, even with the delays. The seeing was about 1 arc sec tonight for the Lens program. CD's were written and files scp to the appropriate local. Insturment change was made at 18:45 to GRIM and was turned over to 2nd observer of the night at 19:00. Nancy seemed to have better luck with the FTP to NMSU tonight. Russet called around 20:00 tonight. Her plane had just got into El Paso so she will not be in at all tonight (She was stuck on the tarmac for 5hrs in Dallas waiting for the plane to be de-iced). Nancy measured 0.5 arc sec (1.99u) seeing at 20:45 from her standard star. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Noel Camron Hastings Second half started smoothly. No problems to report other than the fact that NA1 pointing is never as good as NA2 these days. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:00 SPIcam -300(412) 231 49 -0.8/ 0.5 265 1 r' 1.07" 18:15 NA2-Guider -3970 231 49 -0.8/ 0.5 265 1 - 0.92" 19:10 GRIM f/10 -110(510) 103 50 -0.4/-0.3 275 2 1.58 0.70" 00:10 Echelle +086(291) 268 37 -1.9/-2.3 327 07 ND3 1.45" 06:20 Echelle +086(295) -116 48 -1.0/-0.8 299 14 ND3 0.82" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 23 1 224 (SW) 1143 lt. cirrus none 17:01 30 21 3 226 (SW) 1109 lt. cirrus none 18:01 30 20 0 195 (SSW) 1199 lt. cirrus none 19:01 31 14 1 278 (W) 459 lt. cirrus none 20:01 30 14 2 275 (W) 427 lt. cirrus none 21:01 29 18 1 214 (SW) 992 clear none 22:01 29 15 1 242 (WSW) 682 clear none 23:01 28 2 7 352 (N) 73 clear none 00:01 29 5 9 0 (N) 91 clear none 01:01 29 8 7 31 (NNE) 167 cirrus none 02:01 31 8 8 357 (N) 151 cirrus none 03:01 29 12 8 357 (N) 206 cirrus none 04:01 31 12 8 356 (N) 230 cirrus none 05:01 32 10 13 328 (NNW) 228 clear none 06:01 31 11 7 295 (WNW) 208 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
