The seeing was quite variable during first half because of strong winds. We had to close for an hour when the wind gusts went over the limit, but after that the wind dropped. There were no significant problems aside from some pointing difficulties on the very first field because the telescope had not slewed past any altitude magnasensors. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Jack Dembicky Started the night under starry skies. Seeing wasn't the best (1.5" at 00:30) and we adjusted the focus. J. Holtzman helped me go thru focusing of DIS instead of him just quickly doing it (I have to be able to do it sometime, might as well be now!). JH read the FWHM off as I adjusted the focus and took the images. Everything ran smooth as silk! Gratings on DIS will be changed in the afternoon since JH wanted to do some cals at the end of the night tonight. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:33 DISslit 0(679) 194 60 1.0/2.0 30 19 - 1.10 17:37 gdr -1105(676) 196 59 1.0/1.8 359 13 - 1.05 00:30 DISslit 100(787) 55 45 4.7/2.6 32 16 - 1.52 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 34 25 11 30 (NNE) 885 clear none 17:01 33 20 14 16 (NNE) 788 clear none 18:01 33 16 21 8 (N) 488 clear none 19:01 34 11 17 13 (NNE) 387 clear none 20:01 34 11 22 14 (NNE) 511 clear none 21:01 35 11 22 23 (NNE) 486 clear none 22:01 35 12 9 19 (NNE) 509 clear none 23:01 36 10 16 22 (NNE) 777 clear none 00:01 41 5 19 29 (NNE) 113 clear none 01:01 41 2 6 61 (ENE) 84 clear none 02:01 40 3 4 13 (NNE) 148 clear none 03:01 41 2 13 51 (NE) 78 clear none 04:01 42 2 12 55 (NE) 65 clear none 05:01 41 1 11 58 (ENE) 69 clear none 06:01 42 3 12 38 (NE) 53 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
