Seeing was excellent during first half, and the focus was at least a little more stable than the previous night. Telescope, instrument and guider all behaved well. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Jack Dembicky First half observers finished a couple mins ahead of schedule. I did the change over to the Echelle and handed it over to the 2nd half observer at 00:05. We focused the Echelle (clear filter) and when Don moved the telescope slightly over to his target star with a ND3 filter he noted the star looked a bit elliptical. He suggested that the ND3 filter be checked during the next engineering time. The star was a 0 mag object (beta ori) and was approx at AZ:225 El:37. The image resembled coma. It may have just be the result of the atmosphere and airmass, but Don was concerned. The seeing improved later in the evening. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:00 SPIcam -100(819) 253 74 3.5/5.2 222 10 r' 0.76 18:02 NA2gdr 319(60319) 253 73 3.5/5.0 214 9 none 0.88 19:48 SPIcam -25(810) 298 72 3.4/3.3 266 10 r' 0.78 21:04 SPIcam 50(916) 246 53 3.2/3.0 274 7 r' 0.73 21:06 NA2gdr 500(60500) 246 52 3.2/3.0 267 13 none 0.85 00:10 Echelle 37(-203) 205 46 2.3/2.0 266 11 clear 1.50 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 43 1 10 223 (SW) 114 cirrus none 17:01 39 -3 7 205 (SSW) 103 mstly clr none 18:01 38 -4 8 224 (SW) 122 cirrus none 19:01 38 -4 7 235 (SW) 114 cirrus none 20:01 38 -2 8 261 (W) 111 ptly cldy none 21:01 38 -3 11 280 (W) 92 ptly cldy none 22:01 37 1 9 264 (W) 96 cirrus none 23:01 37 4 8 262 (W) 160 cirrus none 00:01 36 5 8 265 (W) 171 cirrus none 01:01 37 3 8 262 (W) 178 cirrus none 02:01 37 3 11 268 (W) 168 cirrus none 03:01 36 5 7 265 (W) 201 cirrus none 04:01 36 6 7 266 (W) 239 cirrus none 05:01 35 11 8 237 (WSW) 324 cirrus none 06:01 33 12 7 221 (SW) 337 cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
