Seeing was very good for most of first half, but the focus with SPIcam was quite variable despite the early cooling. The changes reflected in the log below were not simply a function of the different filters; the drift was seen in a single filter as well. Everything went smoothly aside from the need for frequent re-focusing. Later in the evening, the seeing also began to deteriorate. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Jack Dembicky The first half observer finished a couple mins early so I made the inst. change over to the Echelle and handed it over to the 2nd half observer a couple mins ahead of schedule. Everything ran smooth all night. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:55 SPIcam -75(843) 80 63 4.9/4.8 302 12 r' 0.95 17:57 NA2gdr -381(59618) 80 63 4.9/4.8 299 13 none 0.91 18:51 SPIcam 50(961) 264 64 5.4/4.8 300 12 R 0.62 20:05 SPIcam -50(829) -135 63 2.9/3.9 336 10 r' 0.85 22:41 SPIcam 100(1050) 107 38 5.4/3.8 300 14 r' 1.83 00:15 Echelle 69(-139) -90 57 4.7/3.8 344 14 nd1 0.96 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 44 8 8 280 (W) 137 mstly clr none 17:01 41 0 11 326 (NW) 112 clear none 18:01 41 0 12 294 (WNW) 113 clear none 19:01 42 1 12 316 (NW) 104 clear none 20:01 37 5 9 321 (NW) 212 clear none 21:01 38 8 10 325 (NW) 282 clear none 22:01 39 6 9 325 (NW) 225 clear none 23:01 41 5 5 305 (NW) 198 clear none 00:01 40 7 11 308 (NW) 176 clear none 01:01 39 6 15 327 (NNW) 186 clear none 02:01 38 7 6 338 (NNW) 230 clear none 03:01 39 8 13 339 (NNW) 220 clear none 04:01 38 7 15 313 (NW) 240 clear none 05:01 39 4 17 325 (NW) 219 clear none 06:01 38 1 6 328 (NNW) 223 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
