It behaved well, and I obtained the first lens images in a few weeks with good seeing. Some of the 90 second guided images were around 0.98". I switched over to DIS at 18:32 MST and the next Princeton program started without incident. All ran smoothly for the rest of the night. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan Second half was clear, with mostly sub-arcsecond seeing. In fact, for a while the seeing was too good and GRIM had to be defocused a little so that the images wouldn't be so badly undersampled. The observer needed the larger field of view and couldn't change image scales. The time scheduled for NM08 was given to NM04 instead. We had no trouble except when the rotator tracked into a limit after spending many hours on the same target field. It took us a while to discover the problem, because the error messages were much more understated than I expected. But the stopped rotator had little effect on image quality in the short GRIM exposures, so the data came out all right. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:50 SPIcam -080(0416) 164 60 -4.9/-3.5 000 09 g' 0.98" 17:55 NA2 Gdr +0765(0410) 165 60 -4.8/-3.5 009 11 none 1.12" 18:48 DIS Slit -030(0307) 154 55 -5.2/-4.6 014 09 none 1.18" 18:52 NA2 Gdr -1430(0305) 155 55 -5.2/-4.7 025 09 none 1.19" 00:28 GrIm2(f/5) 0(532) 57 48 -3.1/-4.3 17 19 J 0.85 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 27 12 4 354 (N) 294 Clear None 17:01 25 12 8 39 (NE) 314 Clear None 18:01 24 13 17 4 (N) 401 Clear None 19:01 24 12 9 351 (N) 457 Clear None 20:01 24 13 8 6 (N) 428 Clear None 21:01 24 9 17 3 (N) 739 Clear None 22:01 24 7 20 25 (NNE) 475 Clear None 23:01 26 3 12 1 (N) 370 Clear None 00:01 27 -1 10 15 (NNE) 195 Clear None 01:01 28 -2 11 9 (N) 207 Clear None 02:01 28 0 21 24 (NNE) 246 Clear None 03:01 29 1 16 14 (NNE) 439 Clear None 04:01 30 -3 15 350 (N) 249 Clear None 05:01 31 -6 9 358 (N) 145 Clear None 06:01 31 -6 13 329 (NNW) 145 Clear None note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
