All systems operated well. The new DIS slit viewer behaving well, more sensitive. No need for darks up to 120 secs, although they help just slightly at that exposure value. Count on about 120 seconds to identify a 20th magnitude object, roughly. DIS collimators are wandering again already for some reason. Today RED is still in focus, very well, but BLUE has wandered a bit. I will take a look at them again tomorrow if possible. Princeton's Mac failed for some reason and would not restart. I began taking the images that they needed from here, which was easy because they were long exposures. We did not lose any observing time. Observing Specialist, 2nd Shift: Russet McMillan The time originally scheduled for NM08 was given to NM04 instead, by request of the observers. The GRIM observations went very smoothly under clear skies with sub-arcsecond seeing. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:00 DIS Slit -080(501) 136 48 -0.6/+0.4 355 08 none 1.09" 18:05 NA2 Gdr -1200(495) 137 49 -0.7/+0.3 358 09 none 1.07" 00:42 GrIm2(f/5) -80(595) 90 43 -1.0/-1.5 13 16 J 0.99 ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 31 18 10 345 (NNW) 281 Cirrus none 17:01 30 13 15 358 (N) 297 Cirrus none 18:01 30 7 9 27 (NNE) 241 Cirrus none 19:01 31 16 15 12 (NNE) 354 Cirrus none 20:01 31 14 13 12 (NNE) 368 Cirrus none 21:01 31 13 19 30 (NNE) 231 Cirrus none 22:01 32 9 17 21 (NNE) 582 ptly cldy none 23:01 30 14 13 14 (NNE) 476 ptly cldy none 00:01 30 12 22 17 (NNE) 525 mstly clr none 01:01 30 15 19 27 (NNE) 459 clear none 02:01 30 15 21 29 (NNE) 359 clear none 03:01 29 16 22 22 (NNE) 403 clear none 04:01 29 15 21 31 (NNE) 420 clear none 05:01 29 16 20 21 (NNE) 434 clear none 06:01 28 16 18 15 (NNE) 426 clear none 07:01 29 12 9 4 (N) 454 clear none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
