I used a few minutes to test the new slit imager focus work I did through the thick cirrus. We then tried to get a standard, which was successful, but right then the cirrus thickened up and we had to close again at 21:40 MST. The slit imager focus was off quite a bit so I worked on it this afternoon and evening. The few on sky tests I obtained showed the DIS cameras and the slit imager within about 10 units of one another in focus, which is as good as we can ever expect. Collimators and slit imager now working as a team again. Due to the full shift night (16 hours) and the poor weather, I decided to close up shop early. The satellite showed no hope, and the cloud camera was black for hours. I left DIS mounted for the next night's observing. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM" --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:25 DIS Slit -050(589) 185 79 3.8/4.4 175 04 none 1.31" 20:28 DIS Red -060(599) 190 79 3.6/4.3 178 01 none 1.38" 20:32 DIS Blue -060(599) 191 80 3.4/4.2 112 02 none 1.53" 20:37 DIS Slit -060(595) 194 77 3.1/4.1 159 02 none 1.48" ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 20 1 133 (SE) 255 cloudy none 17:01 39 21 1 112 (ESE) 313 cloudy none 18:01 41 21 1 114 (ESE) 363 cloudy none 19:01 39 23 1 183 (S) 315 cloudy none 20:01 40 23 6 191 (S) 325 cloudy none 21:01 37 22 4 167 (SSE) 299 cloudy none 22:01 39 24 0 187 (S) 349 cloudy none 23:01 40 27 9 180 (S) 369 cloudy none 00:01 38 27 7 187 (S) 302 cloudy none 01:01 38 30 14 218 (SW) 300 cloudy none 02:01 39 30 10 175 (S) 416 cloudy none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
