I did get to open at 21:30 under windy, partly cloudy skies. I found the pressurization fan switch in the OFF position, I returned it to the AUTO position. We started by rotating the tertiary to the TR1 position with no tertiary error messages encountered. Later, we slewed with no rotator troubles that I could detect. Skies cleared dramatically around 23:00 and we successfully obtained useable Shack-Hartmann data. We then spent some time imaging with the guider to make sure the rotator was tracking happily when I turned over to Russet. Observing Specialist, 2nd shift: Russet McMillan The clouds returned and the telescope was closed due to rising humidity shortly after midnight. We had some trouble with the GPS clock, but it recovered itself after a few hours. The new rotator motor seemed improved, but still showed a few minor examples of misbehavior. --------------- INSTRUMENT FOCUS LOG ---------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El #Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:45 S-H +070(????) 123 62 8.1/8.9 235 21 none Bad ------------- WEATHER CONDITIONS ------------ Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 50 44 24 217 (SW) 232 18:01 51 40 18 255 (WSW) 218 19:01 49 38 25 223 (SW) 198 20:01 49 38 13 204 (SSW) 208 21:01 48 38 10 221 (SW) 200 22:01 49 38 20 221 (SW) 215 23:01 48 38 14 250 (WSW) 227 ptly cldy none 00:01 46 41 20 229 (SW) 266 ptly cldy none 01:01 46 42 13 237 (WSW) 277 ptly cldy none 02:01 44 41 13 224 (SW) 327 cloudy none 03:01 44 42 14 264 (W) 368 cloudy none 04:01 44 42 14 250 (WSW) 324 cloudy none 05:01 43 42 11 272 (W) 311 cloudy fog note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
