The first test was to see how soon after sunset we can get useful S-H data. In this test, the background level in the S-H images remained too high until the end of Nautical twilight (i.e. the scheduled start of science observing). Wind shake made it difficult to get useful images. We closed the telescope at 19:00, due to high wind gusts, and reopened at 20:00. We had to close again at 20:50, due to clouds, dust, and high winds. 2nd half observing specialist: McMillan The clouds, dust, and wind improved shortly after 01:00, but some complications were showing up with the primary LVDT monitoring system, and we didn't open until 02:40. We got limited Shack-Hartmann data on a few stars before thick clouds rolled in and we closed at 03:45. We did not have time to try out different tip/tilts or to do a pointing model, but we obtained some indications of how the collimation varies with altitude and the fact that these changes do not appear to be caused by motions of the primary mirror.
