The telescope opened at 16:50 under slighty cirrus skies. NM02 was performed with AOTF. A pointing error occured in the altitude axis due to misreading of a magnesensor. Problem was corrected by reslewing the scope past several of the magnesensors and "returning" to the object. 2nd half observing specialist: McMillan * When we moved the telescope for the instrument change, we had a couple of problems. Firstly, the TCC decided to send the telescope to an azimuth of -180 (the clockwise limit) instead of +180 as commanded. Secondly, the rotator was imbalanced and tipped AOTF over to -90 degrees when a stop button was pushed, causing it to dump nitrogen. Since the instrument was dismounted and re-filled immediately afterward, no harm was done. The weather started out slightly cirrusy but improved as the morning progressed. We were apparently on a boundary between two different airmasses, as the temperature changed rapidly with each shift in the wind. This caused variable seeing and some difficulty in keeping the echelle focused, but otherwise posed no severe problems.
