This afternoon we experienced one of the worst dust events anyone around here can remember. The dust was so thick at one point this afternoon I had to turn on my car headlights while driving to the observatory. The dust counter topped out at 50x our shutdown level. Conditions improved rapidly at sunset, but not quite enough to allow opening the telescope. The sky became overcast as the dust cleared up considerably. I suspect nearby precipitation was cleaning the air. We had just a couple snow flurries here. *The air conditioner in the computer room quit during the evening. Fortunately Camron was around and he knew the secret to bringing it back on line. 2nd half observing specialist: Russet McMillan The telescope was not opened during second half due to overcast skies, occasional high winds, and a really pathetic attempt at precipitation.
