When Alan Diercks tried his first pointings we were way off. After I checked the axis logs I looked at the schedule and saw that the echelle was on last night resulting in the implementation of the NA1 pointing model. After I removed that and installed the NA2 pointing model all was well. There was a time switch tonight resulting in UW starting and then JH taking over with GRIM. The instrument switch then happened in their program so that PU takes over while DIS is mounted. This preserved all the actual obs times and was not a problem. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan After DIS was first focused, there was some time lost due to an apparent communication hangup between DIS and the MC. The MC had to be restarted, which then caused some trouble with the remote observer's Remark. Other minor problems included several timeouts from the slit camera during "get activity status." As on previous occasions, these errors cropped up several times in a period of a few minutes, then went away entirely. OBSERVER COMMENTS: M.Strauss (PU01): A beautiful night, with good seeing and clear skies. No problems whatsoever to report. Observing was very efficient and successful.
