The dust counter peaked at over 20x our shutdown level. Holloman and Alamogordo were invisible from APO this afternoon as the observatory and surrounding area were enveloped in a white "fog" of gypsum dust. 2nd half observing specialist: Russet McMillan Dust counts gradually decreased during second half, but just as they crossed below the limit, the wind gusts picked up. By the time conditions were acceptable for opening, it was 15 minutes before twilight -- too late to accomplish any of our engineering goals. The telescope was never opened.
