Seeing was moderately poor. The humidity rose abruptly early on, but never reached the limit, and it dropped again after about an hour. As noted on some previous nights, the leak at the top of the DIS dewar was quite severe in the afternoon; the instrument used 15 lbs of nitrogen between 11:00 and 16:00, and its pressure dropped to zero. As soon as a large dewar was hooked up for pressure-building, another instrument fill started -- but it lasted less than a minute. During the night, DIS maintained pressure and temperature adequately. * There was a repeat of the problem described yesterday during stow procedures; since it now appears to be repeatable, I detailed it in a problem report. Another interesting matter came up, however. This time, when the alt motors began to complain, I issued an "axis stop" to stop the telescope, which seemed to work. But when I sent a new rotate command, the azimuth and altitude axes both started moving as well. This sounds like a potential problem. OBSERVER COMMENTS M.Strauss (PU01): Another good night, with no problems to report. Observing tonight was particularly efficient; we bagged 6 objects, four of which are quasars.
