There was a thick, low cloud layer stretching across the basin from horizon to horizon, but the observatory was above the clouds. Kevin Krisciunas observed with GrIm2 for UW02. He had a good one hour run with a lot of good images of his targets. Denise Stephens observed from NMSU for NM01, also with GrIm2. *I had a little trouble getting the DIMM laptop to boot up this afternoon, but eventually got it running. I refocused the DIMM telescope. 2nd half observing specialist: McMillan The night was clear and warmer than recent weeks, with exceptionally good seeing. Some of the numbers in the focus log below are actually an overestimate of the seeing, since we were undersampled with GRIM at f/5. The telescope was getting considerably better seeing (at least in the infrared) than the DIMM monitor. The telescope behaved well throughout the morning, and GRIM was good also until 05:30, when * the application died on the GRIM Mac. Rebooting solved the immediate problem with little loss of time, but this appears to be a repeat of the difficulty we had on 12/22. The Mac has been replaced since then, but the hard drive is the same -- another solution may be necessary.
