Santa will have a hard time finding Apache Point Observatory tonight. We've had gusts over 50 mph all afternoon and evening. No chance of observing tonight. There is snow getting into the 2.5-m enclosure, under the bottom and over the top of the east door. There was a dusting of snow on the cover on the front of the telescope and snow underneath the telescope. I've swept up the snow and stuffed rags up against the bottom of the door. A little snow is also getting into the 3.5-m enclosure, around the door to the catwalk and also a little on the east side of the intermediate level. Frank and I took turns doing site snow removal, but had to give up after a while due to the high winds. I've advised Russet not to try coming in in tonight. Frank is staying the night. 2nd half observing specialist: McMillan OBSERVER COMMENTS FOCUS LOG DECEMBER 24 1999 Wind Time Inst Focus Az El #Temp Dir MPH filt FWHM " #First temp is air, second temp is telescope.
