The engineering time was used for Echelle testing. Don York and Connie Rockosi observed remotely with Chris Mallouris observing from onsite. The Echelle slit is very nicely focused now! I used Russet's data on the position of the NA1 boresite to update the instrument block for the Echelle guider. I think the slit is now within a few pixels of the boresite. During our tests of the Echelle, the star stayed on the slit pretty well. Some minor tweaking of the pointing model and instrument block are still needed, but both are currently quite usable. 2nd half observing specialist: Russet McMillan Second half was clear, and we obtained a number of science exposures without any difficulties. There was an attempt to see how deep the echelle guider could see, and the conclusion was that at magnitudes of 18 or fainter, with exposures longer than one minute, it was necessary to subtract off a background frame in order to see the target. Currently there's no automation for taking and subtracting a background frame; perhaps something of the sort should be considered.
