Eric Deutsch and Scott Anderson were observing for the first half of the evening. COMMENTS:Eric Deutsch & Scott Anderson: Everything worked nearly flawlessly tonight. We took over 1100 frames with GRIM without trouble. About 3 or so images had strange patterns on them but they were immediately followed by normal images. At times when we were at airmass less than 1.1 we obtained many frames with 0.65-0.75 arcsec seeing and around 20 frames with FWHM between 0.55 and 0.60. We were imaging in f/10 mode (0.236 arcsec/pix) in K band. Otherwise, telescope, rotator, etc. worked perfectly. Many of the short (5 & 10 sec) images were elongated in various orientiations; it's hard to say whether telescope shake or seeing variation is responsible for this. We've seen this on several nights in the past month. One minor oddity: upon connecting with Remark, the greeting says one should be using version 2.41 but we're using version 2.42 here. No problems came from it, though. I observed 2237 for the Lens Monitoring with DIS. I began a pointing model at 3am, but the rotator began having problems half way through (it lost it's place again:suppose to be at 51.09, was at 141.98). I stopped the process, and began another pointing model at 3:50. The second one also had problems with the rotator going to the right location. I halted everything, and went up to the observing level to try some manual tests with the rotator. It seemed to rotate when the command 'rot 0.0 phys' was entered. I tried a completely different pointing model the third time, and the rotator stayed at zero, and would not move with the completed slew. I stopped the process again, and slewed using Remark, and the rotator began working again. I began another pointing model, but the rotator got lost again. At this point, I stopped the motors and initialized and sent the rotator to zero. I then slewed in remark, and the rotator got stuck again. I think there is something seriously wrong as it will not go past 144. I stopped testing for fear that I may damage something further.
