Mark Klaene arrived at 19:30 to work on the rotator problem. We replaced the servo amp and tested the rotator. We had to unhook the guider cabling as the balancer had no tension left in it. This made it impossible to use DIS as the cable would tangle itself in the DIS mounting bracket. I did not observe for Lens Monitoring due to the cable wrap problem. Eric Bell began observing with GRIM2 at 22:00 and he had no problems. He ran through the entire night, and the rotator worked wonderfully! COMMENTS: Due to work being carried out on the instrument rotator, we opened two hours late. Once this was fixed, we opened and observed, without any problems. The K' band sky brightness is quite high (around 2 times normal) meaning that I had to use shorter exposures. Tia and I suspect that this bright sky is due to the very bright full moon. The seeing varied around 1.1 - 1.3 arcsec all night. Many thanks to Tia and the staff at APO for fixing the instrument rotator so quickly. Eric Bell :) Forecast:(4:30am) .TODAY...FAIR THIS MORNING.
