JH02 used GRIM for cals and dark test while the dome was closed. During these tests I made one check on the instruments at 20:30 to find that SPIcam's LN2 fill tube suffered a structural failure localized in the rubber connecting tube between the hard line and the dewer. I located a piece of red vacuum hose and replaced it. It was returned to operating condition in about 30 minutes. Also, DIS seems to have drained the transfer dewer, as I checked and the weight was at 50lbs, even though it was filled to 80lbs at 4pm today. Also, all fill tubes and dewers were encased in a large block of ice. I refilled the dewer and waited for two fill cycles to ensure the solenoid was closing, and it was. I guess that it will have to be monitored. Though the enclosure did open at 23:45, clouds still made observations impossible, and a minor equipment prob caused further delay once open. Once remedied, we started imaging, though clouds were ever present. Image quality was good eventually, and UW13 had a couple of good hours. Lens monitoring for PU01 started on time with no problems. Sky was still very bright, and image quality was dubious. -Camron Hastings FOCUS LOG August 10th 1998 Best Telescope Temp Wind Seeing Time Instrmt Focus Az El Air/Truss Dir MPH filter FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:30 GRIM -040/6644 80 79 15.1/15.3 81 10 K 1.2" 04:18 SPIcam -020/6665 226 51 14.3/14.7 82 10 R 0.8" WEATHER LOG August 10th 1998 Wind Time Temp-F Dewp-F MPH Direction Dust Sky Precip ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 66 49 7 215 (SW) 924 Cloudy None 17:01 67 45 5 267 (W) 799 Cloudy None 18:01 65 45 2 288 (WNW) 755 Cloudy None 19:01 64 43 0 323 (NW) 816 Cloudy None 20:01 63 46 9 28 (NNE) 1012 Cloudy None 21:01 62 45 12 45 (NE) 1034 Cloudy None 22:01 63 41 6 71 (ENE) 908 Cloudy None 23:01 61 34 9 88 (E) 664 Ptly Cldy None 00:01 61 33 11 86 (E) 697 Ptly Cldy None 01:01 61 35 11 85 (E) 747 Ptly Cldy None 02:01 59 39 14 73 (ENE) 907 Ptly Cldy None 03:01 58 41 10 85 (E) 1017 Ptly Cldy None 04:01 57 43 12 110 (ESE) 1088 Clear None 05:01 59 44 16 124 (SE) 1133 Clear None note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
