Povilas Palunas and Meena Sahu were on site with the GFP instrument. They had the first half of the evening. Comments:Thanks to Mark and Dave the telescope pointed flawlessly, landing exactly on the center of the bore-site for every pointing. Alas, new problems cropped up. The focus was off by almost 700 units at the start of the night. When we finally focused the seeing was horrible ( > 2arcsec). After about two hours of observing the focus was suddenly lost and returned to a value close to last nights. Cameron had mentioned this happens at a certain temperature. The temperature was 19.6. The seeing improved slowly and we ended with 1.4arcsec images. Also the dhcp server died around 12o'clock. Povilas Palunas and Meena Sahu Dan Zucker was available for the second half of the evening. Comments:The run was much better than last night, with seeing from 1.3 -- 1.8 arcsec. The guider worked well, but I was unable to start or stop it from my end; I clicked the buttons on the remote Guider Controller, but nothing happened, so Tia had to start and stop it for me. The pointing was good tonight -- only one slew to a "mystery field", and Tia was able to do a pointing error correction, after which we got to the right field with no problem. We took one image with circular trailing, which we started after a slew finished. My hypothesis is that, at least sometimes, Remark says the telescope is done slewing but the rotator is still moving (hence the circular trailing superimposed on a star field). Tonight's run was also seriously impacted by two net "outages", during which I was unable to exchange more than a character or two with APO computers for periods of 10 - 15 minutes. The first such outage I traced by pinging to somewhere between NMSU and APO. The second, as I was racing to take dawnflats, prevented me from doing so -- when I gave up waiting and called Tia to take them for me, it was already too bright. Many thanks to Tia for all her help! I observed for the Lens Monitoring, 2237. No problems.
