Gordon Richards was observing with DIS for the first half of the evening. Comments:Did pretty well tonight, though we got a slow start as a result of some atypical problems. We were able to get a nice spectrum of one of our QSO absorption line targets. Three 30 minute exposures gave S/N>60 in the blue for this V~17 target with the medium resolution gratings. The slowness of the arc lamp web page (sometimes over 1 minute to turn on the lights!) made it cumbersome to take arcs between exposures. Gordon The problem Gordon mentioned was as follows: slewed to a standard; found it on the Slit Viewer; completely lost it; reslewed; could not find it; moved on to another standard. Scott Anderson and Bernhard Beck-Winchatz observed for the second half of the evening with SPICAM. Comments:Instrument, telescope, support, and weather were all quite good again, although seeing was moderate at about 1.4+-0.2" most of evening. Good science data were collected, plus a little more data relevent to calibration of new SPIcam shutter opening time (and hence accuracy of exposure times requested and listed in headers). --Scott and Bernhard (* means a trouble report has been issued or appended to) FOCUS LOG MAY 28, 1998 Best Telescope Wind Seeing Time Inst Focus Az El Temp# Dir MPH filter FWHM " 21:30 DIS -200(6675) 189.9 74.7 16.5/18.52 265.7 5.9 empty ----* 01:30 SPICAM -250(6500) -165.2 55.8 15.2/15.71 332.7 9.8 B 1.0 03:35 SPICAM -250(6439) -21.9 53.3 15.1/14.96 350.7 10.3 I 1.5 # The first temp is air, the second is truss, both in degrees C. * Due to calibrations in spectral mode, we were not able to image for focus.
