Bernadette Rodgers observed with DIS. *Pointing was an issue tonight as I saw a 20-25arc-sec shift in pointing and noted that tracking was poor as viewed on the slitview camera. *Also, Bernadette was unable to change her grating settings via REMARK 2.39. A different grating setting was dialed in, but was rejected by REMARK. The setting was different from the current setting but her REMARK saw the requested setting as the same. *During Bernadette's time, we lost communications with the structure temperature sensors. Craig noted that the terminal server was not responding to IP commands. Also noted was that the T_COLLIMATE process died during this time. During the instrument change, we rebooted the terminal server but found that the azimuth controller was not communicative. A reset of the controller brought things back into order. Connie Rockosi attempted to observe with Spicam, driftscan. However, upon initiating the driftscan, which was recieved by the TCC, Spicam would not write the image header or read the chip... it was awaiting for something from the TCC. Gene Magnier helped us abit but we were not able to resolve the problem. Connie needed photometric conditions, so the remainder of the time was given to EN01 for the purpose of obtaining an instrument block as prescribed by Russell Owen. *During the instrument block, I found that the T_TRACKOBJ process was dead. Once restarted, I was able to use the driftscan command and produce an image (though trailed). What caused the process, or the earlier process, to die is unknown. I continued the instrument block and implemented it, but was unable to test with the driftscan due to time constraints. The data fit well and the results were consistent with the previous block. Dave Thilker observed with DIS. Besides some rather annoying cirrus for the first hour or so, the run was productive. OBSERVER COMMENTS Bernadette Rodgers: Things went fairly well tonight and I obtained hi-res spectra of 4 objects, at two tilt positions. The pointing was not very good though, causing Charles to do 2 pointing corrections, and costing some time in getting objects on the slit. Also, I used the 2.39 version of Remark, which would not let me change the grating tilts. Remark gave a message to the effect that 'the move requested required no change, so nothing was done', which was incorrect. Charles had to change the tilts for me from his Remark session. No other problems with the new Remark (which has a fancy new color look). Connie Rockosi: A combination of very non-photometric skies and trouble driftscanning with SPIcam made it impossible to make good scientific use of my time, and I gave the remainder up for engineering so that some good might come of it. Gene Magnier logged in for a while and tried to sort out the trouble with SPIcam, which I appreciate very much. Dave Thilker: Deep multi-slit spectra covering NGC 5195 were obtained during tonight's run. No serious technical difficulties were encountered, but the first 2 hours of our time were somewhat hampered by cirrus.
