Bernadette Rodgers was observing for UW03. Comments:Despite thick cirrus, I had a fairly successful run. The pointing was very good, and I had no problems with DIS. The efficiency of my program depends on the observing specialist's speed in lining the objects up on the slit and offsetting along it. Tia was very attentive and quick. Thanks Tia! Eric Bell was observing remotely from Durham, UK. At 20:45, while trying to focus, I found that I could not get any light on any of my exposures. I went outside and found it had become very heavily overcast. I closed at this time. We reopened at 23:00, and Eric took over for the remaining time. Comments:The weather was pretty bad until 23:00, and then it cleared up a little, allowing some observations to be made until 23:58. The telescope was fine -- no pointing problems. GRIM was operational, but crashed 2 times during the observations, resulting in a small amount of lost time. Once again, thanks for all of your help! David Thilker was on site for the NM03 run. He began using DIS with a filter +mask set up he had installed. At 1:30, the guider mac crashed, and I had to cycle the power upstairs and restart the guider software. Started back up with no problems and we were guiding again. At 4:00, the guider mac crashed again, and I had to go through the process again.* Comeents:This evening went smoothly, with the small exception of the occasional loss of auto-guiding during 45-60 minute integrations. Our program was not adversely affected by this equipment fault, since we were principally observing diffuse emission and the net tracking error during times without guiding was on the order of 2" - comparable to our slit width. We obtained all the planned observations for the run, but with substantially reduced sensitivity due to intermittent patches of thick clouds during all science exposures. The observations obtained tonight should help us to verify the utility of the multi-slit/narrowband filter method for producing finely-sampled maps of the velocity field traced by H-alpha line emission.
