Opening was delayed by clouds. The clouds thinned and the sky was perfectly clear for a while. The telescope was closed at 00:15 MST, due to clouds. Snow began to fall at 01:00 MST. Only about 1/2-inch accumulation so far. The observers were Bernadette Rodgers for UW11, myself for PU01, and Nick Devereux for NM08. Bernadette lost some time at the beginning of her run due to clouds, but was pleasantly surprised when the sky cleared. I observed one of the gravitational lens targets for PU01. The sky began to cloud up at the end of that run. Nick's run was snowed out. OBSERVER COMMENTS Bernadette (UW11) - "Friday the 13th turned out to be lucky for us! It looked like another overcast, rainy night but then the sky cleared and we were open most of my run. I did GRIM spectroscopy in f/20 mode- the pointing and tracking (with guiding) worked well, so I had no trouble getting enough light through the (0.3"!) slit. There seems to be fairly strong banding at f/20 that is not there at f/10, it remains to be seen how well the flats will remove it. Obtaining bright quartz flats frames requires at least 10 minute exposures at f/20, resulting in lots of calibration time. The net was a bit slow at times, but the ftp connection worked all night."
