Skies still laden with cirrus, and getting worse. The DIS behaved all day with respect to LN2 usage, about 15 lbs. of LN2 from ~06:00 until ~16:30. I began a series of 100 darks on GRIM to test for any suprise problems but GRIM seems to like this low humidity lately, all worked fine. Rhodri showed up and started darks at around 17:15 and he was on his first science target by 17:50. All seemed to run smoothly. There was no PU01 this evening as it was deemed unnecessary with the last few nights of data results. Clouds grew thick near 22:00 but we continued to try... 2nd half Observing Specialist: Russet McMillan Second half started with variable clouds. I closed for half an hour starting at 02:15 when they became too thick to gain any useful data, but they soon lightened to patchy cirrus again. Towards the end of the night, we were getting 0.8" seeing. SPIcam behaved well, and no background variations were reported (none of the targets were in the NW). ------------ Observer Comments ------------ FOCUS LOG November 27th 1998 Best Telescope Temp (C) Wind Seeing Time Instrmt Focus Az El Air/Truss Dir MPH filter FWHM" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:40 GRIM II -030(6636) -010 54 11.7/10.4 257 1.7 f/5 KP 0.70" 21:10 GRIM II +020(6646) 334 38 10.3/ 7.8 259 8.4 f/5 KP 0.75" 00:20 SPIcam -100(6343) 207 54 9.8/ 9.2 267 12 r' 1.0 00:25 guider 50500(6345) 209 53 9.6/ 9.3 270 14 R 1.2 03:00 SPIcam -150(6317) 10 47 8.8/ 9.0 226 17 V 1.2 WEATHER LOG November 27th 1998 Wind Time Temp-F Dewp-F MPH Direction Dust Sky Precip ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 48 14 0 9 (N) cirrus none 17:01 51 7 0 293 (WNW) cirrus none 18:01 52 5 2 245 (WSW) cirrus none 19:01 46 17 3 266 (W) cirrus none 20:01 46 21 6 264 (W) cirrus none 21:01 50 4 9 261 (W) cirrus none 22:01 50 5 7 245 (WSW) cirrus none 23:01 50 4 9 260 (W) cirrus none 00:01 50 11 9 259 (W) cirrus none 01:01 49 16 9 228 (SW) cirrus none 02:01 49 21 10 247 (WSW) cirrus none 03:01 48 23 13 243 (WSW) cirrus none 04:01 44 24 13 232 (SW) cirrus none 05:01 45 24 14 225 (SW) cirrus none 06:01 47 22 9 225 (SW) cirrus none note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
