So far, no snow. Tonight's observers took calibration images. Bernadette Rodgers took GRIM2 test images with extra bright quartz lamps. These lamps will probably replace the current bright quartz lamps. I've included her notes below. - Karen OBSERVER COMMENTS UW05 (Rodgers): "GRIM bright quartz lamp test results: Comparing f/10 H&K images, a 20-sec expose with the new lamps is just less than a 120sec expose with the existing bright quartz lamp (see first two stat. groups below), making the new lamps just slightly less than a 6-fold improvement! Instrumental profile in the dispersion direction is identical, showing no color difference at H & K. Other "New" images are taken for information, but no comparison images were taken. At f/5, chip is just saturated at 30 secs, a 10sec image should not be. Notice 3rd item down: "K Lamp Off images shortly after lamps went off", may indicate added thermal background in the first images, but it seems to have completely disappeared before the end of the sequence (compare means w/2hrs later). I'll fax some plots down Monday morning. As for permanent installation: Let's do it, please!"
