There was a wonderfully amusing condensation spot filling the center of the frame that looked just like a Jack-O-Lantern. It became less amusing when it would not dissipate with the nitrogen we pumped in. It gradually has decreased, but was still present when SPIcam was removed. (See: /export/images/lensflat.0009.fits) I switched to DIS and after dealing with the FTP, password, REMARK, security issues at UW and we were online on time. Chris Stubbs was on hand at the UW control room to help out. Once rolling, focusing went well, and the seeing began to improve about 30 mins into the night. The slit camera monitor crashed on the first frame though. I scurried to find a replacement, only to find that the cord was bad. There were a few FTP problems that Julie Lutz ran into as the night went on, but we eventually got them solved as well, or so it seems. I think that we need to come up with a new step by step procedure for the FTP'ing of images, write it up, and send it to all observers to avoid this confusion in the future. I will talk with Craig Loomis about this after he returns from the users committee meeting in Seattle. The seeing settled down around 1" and the telescope was tracking beautifully. JUST IN TIME FOR THE HUMIDITY. Both the 3.5-meter and the 2.5-meter closed at 22:20. Everything outside was wet, and I fear this was our only break before the next big cloud system on the satellite image. We remained closed for the remainder of the evening.
