DIS dewars were not cooled down in time for Bernadette Rodgers to do calibrations. (the O-ring was replaced at 16:00 in the transfer dewar). Therefore, she worked with GRIM2 for her half of the evening. Comments:What a night! Thanks for your help. DIS was unavailable for my first program, so I spent the whole first half on GRIM. We got Cals done ahead and Tia opened as soon as it was dark, giving me a nice long half-night. The weather was not photometric, but ok for spectroscopy. The net was pleasantly quick and trouble-free, the ftp connection gave no problems all night. All in all, a very productive 1/2-night, with lots of YSO spectra obtained! We did have some difficulty getting focussed with GRIM. Tia obtained a perfectly good focus in the K filter, but my images were coming up elongated. The sky was murky and variable making it hard to pin down the problem at first. My objects are bright so I was using the K-dark filter with the ND13% neutral density filter for imaging. Apparently this was the problem. After Tia refocussed with this configuration the focus setting changed dramatically from +25 to +195 and my images improved considerably. I would not recommend using the ND filters to do photometry, I think it was affecting the PSF. -Bernadette Julie Lutz was observing the second half of the evening with DIS. David Reiss was ill and donated his time to the WS01 program. Comments:Everything went well tonight. I learned how to transfer over dis slit images so I could identify my objects. Actually, the telescope was pointing so well, that there was seldom any doubt. I got some good low resolution of central stars that hadn't been observed spectroscopically before.
