Bruce Gillespie approved twilight time through the Lens Monitoring time for Chris Stubbs and Jeff Morgan to test the Guider. We seemed to be having trouble with the telescope slewing to the correct position. It seemed to have a mind of it's own. Chris would put in coordinates, and Remark would show that it was going to a different place than requested. Chris finally positioned the telescope, and managed to focus the Guider and obtain images with offsets (rough focus). Chris mentioned that when I switched the instrument to DIS to work on the PU01 run, it changed the Guider focus from around 20,000 (where they positioned it) to 70,000. Chris would like to change the default *guider* focus value for the various instruments to around 20,000. I was able to get a few exposures in for the Lens Monitoring before Julie Lutz was to begin. Julie began under clear skies working on the WS02 program. The telescope began to show trailing in a few of her images, and she was having some problems with images coming from SPICAM (lines on the images). We reset SPICAM and I reinitialized the telescope. This seems to work for the moment. Then she tried to slew and the telescope would not. I slewed and it seemed to work. So she tried again, this time the azimuth axis ranaway again. I had to REMAP the azimuth axis. I reinitialized everything, and the rotator had gotten into a state where it thought it was at -435677890.0 degrees. I ran a host session from the dome, and reset the rotator to zero. During all this, I did not get to fill the SPICAM on time (and being that Julie is a novice user, she did not bring it to my attention). By the time I had topped off SPICAM, the temperature was around 184. My attention had been on the constant runaway problem. Hopefully I caught it in time. SPICAM began to act up when Julie was trying to obtain twilight flats, and she elected to end at 05:10.
