Heavy clouds and sprinkles prevented us from opening. John Davis, Jeff Morgan and I spent the majority of the night working on the new GUIDER installation. Early in the evening we encountered some problems with the guider cables that were solved by reseating the Digital Control Cable Connector on the camera head. The coolant plumbing was installed and the focus mechanism was modified to allow installation of the new Guider Camera. (At this point, it should be mentioned that it is not possible to REMAP the GUIDER at this time, due to the focus/piston has had its orientation swapped.) To Remap just the filter wheel, one must run a Host session from the TCC, TCC_GMECH, and use the command: 0 (FILTER). The Rotator was roughly balanced and the hardware for the Guider is completely installed and functional. Basic communications between the TCC and the Guider Mac were tested, but we were unable to test guiding function due to the weather. Jeff has stated that mandatory new instrument block be set up before Guider will be available for general use. Alan Diercks was available for the GRB run, but the clouds persisted and then gave way to a heavy and continuous dusting of pollen. (It resembled snow) FOCUS LOG JUNE 19 1997 Best Telescope Wind Seeing Time Inst Focus Az El Temp# Dir MPH filter FWHM " ----NO FOCUS DATA------ # The first temp is air, the second is truss, both in degrees C.
