Gordon Richards also continued his observations, productive as well. Gordon and Chris Mallouis had five nights of observing with DIS, QSO survey. Besides last night's unfortunate warming of the dewars, the run was very productive with over 70+ targets surveyed, and additional secondary targets observed as well. Two important points came to front during this run. First is that the efficiency of Gordon's run could have been increased by 20% if real-time video acquisition of the slit was available (based on the number of targets observed and 5-10min per acquisition). Second, repeatablility of grating tilt positions are more likely than not to render afternoon wavelength calibrations useless, greater than 1pixel shifts in the central wavelength at low-res. More subtle shifts in central wavelength are seen due to turret movement and other factors, but are seen to be of 1pixel or less at low-res. In the spirit of providing information as to the success or failure of observer's programs with the 3.5m telescope, I feel that these two issues are worth mentioning in perspective of Gordon's run.
