He was in the process of observing when we viewed a large increase in the dust count. I went up to close the telescope at 19:20, and smelled smoke. At this time Charles Corson phoned the Forest Service and the Sunspot Fire Department. We saw no evidence of a forest fire, and Tim Henry stopped by to make a check of the situation. The dust counts dropped slowly through the evening, but Andy lost the rest of his time to this problem. Bernadette Rodgers waited for the dust to subside. We reopened at 3:30, to have to reclose at 4:45 due to extreme cloud cover (I could not even view the moon). It remained overcast for the rest of the evening. Also, we encountered a problem with the dewpoint sensor. It does not seem to be reading correctly. Charles tried a few different fixes, such as cycling the power and disconnecting in the apots1 window, but nothing seemed to fix it. I manually read the dewpoint all evening, and checked the RAWS information as a backup.
