The folks involved with the engineering work were Jon Davis, Tia Hoyes, myself (APO); Chris Stubbs, and Al Diercks (UW). The input and advice from the UW end was very much appreciated. Jon Davis took strain gauge and temperature measurements on the 2ndary mirror veins while Tia Hoyes and I monitored focus changes with SPIcam. We obtained a lot of data which I think will be interesting to see plotted up. I've included the focus measurements below and have drawn a line between those taken as part of the focus monitoring (which was on the same star) and the rest of the focus measurements. Tia and I took instrument block data for SPIcam. This data set has been reduced but not implemented, as requested. These data have been sent along with guide camera instrument block data from Oct. 1st to Russ Owen. The new guide camera instrument block has been in use since Oct 1st (the fit was good) and has been working very well. A Collimation Sequence was run with SPIcam. Stubbs, Diercks, Hoyes, and myself looked at the data. We concur that the tilt values (+190,-100) are slightly better than the current values, which are (+50,-225). I have implemented these but will have to back them out until there is time to update the pointing model. Patchy clouds prevented me from getting the necessary pointing model data. Chris Stubbs and Alan Diercks observed some standard stars with the guide camera to measure its performance. Here are their notes on that: Stubbs/Diercks: "Our initial estimate is that a 14.2 mag star in R gives about 8700 ADU above sky in a 60 sec frame, at peak. Simple scaling implies that we should reach guidable signal levels in 30 sec on 19th mag objects, which should give us almost full sky coverage. Suggestion is that guider be first tried at 10 sec exposures, if that does not pick up an object then try for 30 sec frames. This has yet to be verified in practice, however." Note: The current focus piston zero point (currently 6700 um) is about 450 um higher than it needs to be. This means focus settings are coming up around -450 um. I am changing the focus piston zero point to 6250 to reflect this. This value was 6100 before the shutdown. It was changed to 6700 after the shutdown. The most recent change is due to the collimation work that was done last week. We had dust counts above 1600 for about a half hour during the evening. I checked the dust with a flashlight and didn't see much so I opted to stay open.
