Getting the spare to configure with the original memory card and connecting to the various systems was challenging to say the least - Jose and Conor helped tremendously. It is interesting to note that we tried to switch back to the original xyplex but it was exhibiting suspicious behaviors during the reboot and we were not able to connect with it again. Kaike and John Donor assisted with a contingency plan in case we could not operate with BOSS. The telescope is at such a state where it can observe with APOGEE, but not BOSS. More work is needed tomorrow during the day. 3.3hrs were devoted to solving the xyplex problem. 8.0hrs were lost due to high humidity. ---- Engineering Issues ---- Trans D Mig is showing 0.0000. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ========== There were no CAM disconnections past ~12:00Z this morning. Ideas to help mitigate the problems that we have been seeing: reboot the xyplex again Revert back to a previous version of BOSON Run iperf again on obs-2 to monitor the communication traffic Swap the xyplex with a spare During afternoon checkout I rebooted the xyplex again on t-g-sdss-2 2000 and re-established connections. Within 5 minutes of gathering mirror numbers and taking BOSS cals, we had our first instance of sp1cam disconnection. Ok, lets try to not touch boss and only run track commands and adjust the secondary mirror. The focus moved in increments of 10, 25, 50, and 100 microns. No disconnects Now a test for both instrument camChecks/exposures in tandem with mirror movements. Bingo. There was an alert within 1 minute after the test. Contacted JohnD. He is on his way up to the site to swap the spare xyplex. We decided to swap back in the original, and with Kaike's permission, to mainly observe APOGEE bright designs until we can fix the BOSS controller problem. John Donor was able to arrange a per bright night with KRONOS. However, we ran into problems swapping back to the original. We could not connect to it, and the LED lighting on the front did not behave like it should have like the spare did upon bootup. It seems suspicious that it was unable to reboot again. Perhaps that was the point of failure all along. We swapped back in the spare with the original configuration card and called Jose to see if he could assist with getting the connections back. He ran into trouble with the memory card, not being able to load to write things. There was also an issue with the line endings, where the commands and replies for the boss-icc are different and not recognized. Jose contacted Conor for help and he logged on to assist as well. 04:44:13 encl25m : closed; for a humidity spikes 05:07Z - The mirror controllers came back online. Though Conor was weary of some reply messages. 08:00Z - At this time, we still do not know the status of the cameras. The ion pumps physically read that they are still latched, at 10-7 torr. That is good. I completed a manual fill just in case and will plan to check to see if the automatic system is working in about two hours. 08:005Z - Jose was able to get sp1cam talking, so we verified that the camera temperatures and fills are doing what they are supposed to. Phew. Manual fills are not necessary. 12:00Z - The humidity did not let up the remainder of the night, and we got down to our cold temperature limit again.
