Subject: 2.5m obslog 20220704 (SJD 59765) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Tue, 5 Jul 2022 10:34:02 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday July 04, 2022 (SJD 59765) ---- Observing Team ---- Viktor Malanushenko Kaike Pan ---- Observing Plan ---- First priority: observe an RM field, configuring the robots at the observed rotator angle. You can achieve this using the following instructions from José: The option is --no-fixed-rot and the observers would need to write it manually in STUI. So hal goto-field --no-fixed-rot or hal goto-field --no-fixed-rot -s XXX where XXX are the stages they want to use. If for whatever reason this doesn't work, observe the RM field from the queue using the regular current sequence that configures at rotator=190 2., Next hIghest priority is to get dither sequence on design 36002, configured at rotator angle 280 per instructions below with a different configuration rotator angle, with change to /rota=280. Do the dither fields after the telescope has settled. Remember to do a cherno offset command after completing the dither before returning to queue observing! dither sequence: jaeger configuration reverse Slew to 121,70,100 (tcc track 121, 70 mount /rota=280 /rottype=mount) then halt the axes. Load the design: jaeger configuration load --no-clone --epoch-delay 2500 'DESIGNID' Execute the design: jaeger configuration execute Corrective fvc loop: jaeger fvc loop --max-iterations 4 --target-90-percentile 10 --centroid-method zbplus cherno offset ( no arguments, which is equivalent to 0 0 0, just to make sure that offsets are cleared) hal goto-field w/ slew, acquire, guide stages Do hartmanns and boss cals Once guiding stabilizes, expose BOSS for 300s Now do the 12x telescope dithers (no need to include zero offset exposures in middle and end of sequence) : cherno offset dra ddec 0 ( where dra ddec are from chernoDither command) Once guiding stabilizes, expose BOSS for 300s End with: cherno offset jaeger configuration reverse 3. During second half, please obtain a 900s BOSS exposure on design 112891 if seeing is poorer than 2". Otherwise, while telescope is settling and if conditions don't allow the dithers, observe from the queue. ---- Observing Summary ---- When you are closing for weather, I ran a test to identify FPI fibers. We found that, with the telescope at the stow position, the lower FPI fiber (with the black tape) corresponds to fiber ID #225, its image is at y pixel of ~525. The upper FPI fiber corresponds to fiber ID#75, its image locates at y pixel ~ 1535. The entire night is lose to weather: rain, clouds, high humidity.
